On Monday 29 April the Fornaci beach was very busy due to the presence of a large group of children and adults armed with tongs and nets and intent on collecting waste of all kinds. “Let’s clean the beach in front of the XXV Aprile School”, the Savona Provincial Assonautica event, sponsored by the Municipality, was born on the initiative of Isabella and Valentina, two third class students. The girls have given life to “Happy Planet”, an ambitious project: they want to save the Earth by cleaning it up from waste. School friends, young and old friends, family and even Assonautica were involved.
The Association is always available when it comes to intervening in favor of the protection of the sea, especially when it comes to supporting the virtuous initiatives of the little ones. It was a wonderful event, with the participation of many Assonautica members and around twenty enthusiastic children who were very aware of the importance of what they were doing.
The collection took place on a holiday afternoon, without any school imposition, in a totally voluntary manner and this gave even greater value to the event. The “harvest” was abundant and varied: plastic bottles, glass bottles, cans, butts, material of all kinds and even several bags containing dog excrement.
The recyclable material was separated and placed in the appropriate bins. The butts, over 1500, were collected separately and will be preserved until the end of the year, displayed in bottles at the entrance to the Assonautica headquarters. Last year a total of around 58,500 were collected! A municipal resolution requiring smokers to have a pocket ashtray with them could perhaps reduce the problem of cigarette butts abandoned everywhere.
Below is what one of the mothers published on social media, she expressed very well the importance that the event had, both for children and adults:
“Today our children gave us a special day dedicated to civic commitment and love for the environment. On their initiative, together with Assonautica they organized an afternoon dedicated to cleaning our beach. It was nice to see them work with enthusiasm and dedication, collecting abandoned waste to make the coast cleaner. Their smiles and their satisfaction in actively contributing to the care of our territory were truly contagious. The boys and girls also presented their interesting “Happy Planet” project, aimed at raising awareness in the community on the topic of ecology. It was a significant moment of sharing and reflection. This experience has shown us how even the littlest ones can be protagonists of change and bearers of important values. It was a pleasure to support them in this initiative and see them grow as responsible citizens. A heartfelt thanks goes to our children for having created this praiseworthy activity with Assonautica who supported and supported us. Days like this remind us of the importance of taking care of our environment and passing on these values to new generations. Let’s continue on this path, one small gesture at a time, to make our planet a better place for everyone“.
