“She couldn’t have shot herself.” The mystery of the autopsy

It seemed like a dramatic case of murder-suicide, but the story may not have ended there. Pietro Deliaaccountant, e Laura Lupoa municipal police officer, were found lifeless with gunshot wounds in their home, in via Notarbartolo in Palermo, last Saturday morning: the initial reconstruction, however, clashes with some elements that emerged from the autopsy, and now it is a mystery as to how things really happened.

The results of the autopsy

The first hypothesis of the murder-suicide – the initial reconstruction was that the woman, found with the gun in her hand, had killed her husband and then shot herself – leaves some doubts especially in light of the autopsies carried out in recent days. Laura Lupo, a traffic warden on duty at the justice of the peace’s office, had in fact two wounds caused by her service pistol: one in the neck, the other in the head.

So how is it possible that she shot herself the first time and then managed to pull the trigger again, hitting herself in the head and killing herself? The investigators who are continuing to investigate ask themselves this question. On the other hand, the apartment of the two, on the third floor of the building, was closed and there were no signs of forced entry, given that it had confirmed the theory of murder-suicide, but which now no longer seems decisive. The daughter who lives downstairs found the parents’ bodies. Having no news from her father with whom she had a work appointment, she was worried and called the firefighters who entered the house and discovered her bodies.
