The month of May begins with many commitments for the skaters of the ASD Padernese. As per tradition, a fierce patrol of athletes participated in the historic “Labour Trophy” on May 1st in Ferrara. Among the little ones only the debutant Diego Fumagalli who gave life to good races in particular with a spectacular comeback from last to first position in the last lap of his 1000m final.
In the afternoon, the Students, Junior and Senior categories were on stage: Asia Bailo showed off her growing condition by obtaining second position in the sprint race and winning the 5000m elimination race with a good margin over a field of 35 competitors at the start.
Among the juniors, a nice victory for Tommaso Mascazzini in the sprint lap and an excellent bronze for Riccardo Baietta in the 5000 elimination race. In the equal female category Angelica Piloni came 4th in the sprint race which also saw a qualified Chinese representative competing and 6th place in the elimination.
Among the seniors, nice 4th place in the sprint lap for Michele Merlini. Gabriele Baietta was very unlucky and had to give up in the elimination due to a bad fall.
Unfortunately, the rain towards the end of the afternoon of racing made it more difficult for the exciting team sprints to take place: this did not discourage the Granata athletes. In the students the couple Angelica Piloni-Asia Bailo won with a good dose of courage in managing to skate on very slippery asphalt. The males Michele Merlini-Tommaso Mascazzini also did well, earning the second step of the podium.
Only a few days and back in the race: Gabriele Baietta reaches Senigallia, on the weekend of 4/5 May, to test his condition with the best in the category in the Vesmaco International Trophy: 13th in the elimination race and 16th in the points race are the results which still testify to shortcomings, especially in the conduct of the race. However, the indications received from this high-level competition are important.
The Interprovincial Track Championships in Bellusco were also scheduled for May 5th. Good performances for the boys of Gianni Peverelli and Umbertina Ravasi: In the sprint Allieve gold for Asia Bailo, silver for Cora Gualtieri and “wooden medal” for Giorgia Stetco; another Bailo-Gualtieri double for the 3000m with points with 5th place for Stetco.
Among the juniors in the sprint, gold for Mascazzini and silver for Vignazza; positions reversed for the 3000m points. Angelica Piloni wins both the sprint title and the points race title with good performances. She completed the work with the victory for the Piloni-Gualtieri-Bailo trio in the American relay.
Next weekend the youth categories will also return to competition for the Regional Track Championship in Concorezzo. The older ones, however, will compete with the best national athletes in Rovigo for the XXXVIII “Ponzetti” trophy, valid as the first stage of the Italian Roller Cup 2024 reserved for the Junior and Senior categories.
