A few days after that “all’s well that ends well” which appeared on the last pages of Ancona’s season, Filippo Perucchini speaks again. That is, one of the great protagonists of the season, one of the cornerstones of the red and white team who often proved decisive with his interventions. «It was a very difficult season – he comments – and I must say that on my part there is even regret because the playoffs were within our reach. But at the point we were at we had to bring the ship to port and we succeeded. It’s difficult to explain what went wrong, certainly when you’re forced to chase you don’t have a clear head and everything becomes more difficult. In the last five games the true value of Ancona has been seen. The goal of salvation was too important, decisive for the future of society. The key was understanding, unfortunately late, that there was no time to keep up with individualism and stupidity. And then the group’s response finally arrived and made me proud to be part of it.”
What supports Perucchini is the confidence in achieving the set objective. «Despite the difficulties – explains the goalkeeper – there was never a moment in which I thought we might not make it. A few moments of discouragement, of anxiety, yes. In Arezzo where we lost 3-0, in the locker room we looked at each other and promised ourselves that we would never give up. It must be said that the club has always been close to us, in particular our CEO Roberta Nocelli: he suffered with us, he rejoiced with us.”
Now the thoughts of the “guardian” of the red and white door turn to the future. «Personally I hope that we can follow in the footsteps of Cesena, Torres and Carrarese. They have changed little in terms of personnel compared to last year – he reflects – and yet they played a great championship. You have to be good at intervening in the right places but without upsetting a team that has a solid base. A season like this must help all of us grow, an important experience to treasure. There will be changes, a new sporting director will arrive, we have to start again with a different spirit. Antonio Cioffi? He has some striking qualities, as well as dribbling and unpredictability he has a strong and sharp shot. I’m sure he will establish himself soon.”
