Viterbo – We receive and publish – The Stella Carni Viterbo under 12 baseball championship resumes on Saturday 11 May, after a week of rest.
This year the championship is organized in concentrations of three teams who play two four-inning games in each concentration. There are 12 concentrations and each team will play 18 matches. Group A of Lazio, in which Viterbo Baseball is included, also includes Montefiascone baseball, the Red Foxes of Rome and Cali Roma XIII of Acilia. The diamond of Viterbo in his best guise is ready to welcome his audience in Via Tagete. Stella Carni Viterbo baseball under 12 will play at 10.30 am with Montefiascone and at 3.30 pm with Cali Roma XIII, while at 1 pm Montefiascone and Cali Roma XIII will meet.
Viterbo baseball participates in four championships this year: under 12, under 15, under 18 and, for the first time in its young club life, Serie C.
Let’s now talk about under 12s: it is the category of the youngest which includes those born in 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 plus a maximum of three players on the field from 2011 who can be part of the training but never in the role of pitcher.
This is the category in which the years of practice on the diamond are most visible and this year Viterbo Baseball fields a brand new team, many of its members in fact only saw the baseball field at the end of February having practiced in the previous months only in the gym, all brand new players but full of enthusiasm and curiosity under the guidance of the coach Livio Quatrini, assisted in rotation by the other company coaches Mauro Quatrini, Federico Morini, Roberto Fortunati, Alessandro Bertollini and by the head of the coaches Alberto Massini, all committed to creating the team group, making them have fun and discovering everyone’s abilities in the various roles.
This year’s under 12 players are, in order of age: Antonio Pelagalli, Samuele Saccone, Alba Barghini, Mara Dei, Thomas Faccenda, Claudia Stella, Christian Masala, Leonardo Pierangeli, Matteo Capponi, Gabriele Barberi and BrightPhiplip, assisted by the many sailors Roniel Cabrera Gomez and Vittorio Mazza.
Anyone who has never played baseball cannot understand the great emotion it feels to be a pitcher, to bat with the umpire behind him who is the final judge (strictly unchallengeable unlike what happens in football), to steal a base in the riskiest action of the game. Our players found themselves facing all of this with great emotion and enthusiasm in the first matches of their lives. The first ever achieved in an indoor tournament in Montefiascone, then came those of the championship, winning one match and losing five, with 60 points scored and 69 conceded, demonstrating that there is a lot of room for improvement and victory.
The roles are being settled with new discoveries: Christian Masala and Alba Barghini on the pitcher’s plate, Claudia Stella at first base, Bright Philip and Thomas Faccenda behind the catcher’s mask (Thomas is also good as a pitcher and in the other roles), Antonio Pelagalli and Samuele Saccone little apprentices together with Mara Dei, Matteo Capponi and Gabriele Barberi safeties at third base, Leonardo Pierangeli good infielder and outfielder. All seasoned by Roniel Cabrera Gomez and Vittorio Mazza who are wild cards in all roles.
