The solemn pontifical ceremony will be held this evening with the rite of dedication of the cave of San Michele Arcangelo.
The solemn rite, which is part of the celebrations in honor of the Madonna delle Grazie in Modica, will be presided over by Msgr. Salvatore Rumeo, Bishop of Noto.
Saint Michael the Archangel is remembered and celebrated on 8 May and 29 September.
These are the dates traditionally linked to the two main apparitions of the Saint.
According to tradition, it is said that the Archangel appeared for the first time on 8 May 490 and a second time on 29 September 492.
In Modica, at the Basilica Santuario Madonna delle Grazie, the Grotto of San Michele has been open for worship since 16 May 2021, a place that over the years has become a beloved space in which to spend time with the Blessed Sacrament for personal and silent adoration.
Three years later, the spiritual value of the cave is recognized through the act of dedication (consecration) of the altar. A cave strongly desired by the rector-parish priest Don Stefano Modica.
The liturgy that will take place in this afternoon’s celebration at 7.00 pm is one of the most solemn manifestations of the mystery of Christ and the Church.
