Bad weather, rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and yellow alert with adverse weather conditions. These are the forecasts for Wednesday 8 May in Sicily where temperatures are also decreasing. In short, a “tail” of autumn in the middle of spring.
Yellow alert
Yellow alert in all nine provinces of the island. We can read it in the regional civil protection notice 24128 for the meteorological-hydrogeological and hydraulic risk.
Rainfall is expected: “Scattered to widespread, even showers or thunderstorms, in central-western Sicily, with moderate cumulative quantities; appeared, even in the form of a shower or thunderstorm, in the remaining areas, with weak or moderate cumulative quantities”.
Seas: The Strait of Sicily tends to be very rough. Winds: Locally strong northerly over western Sicily.
Adverse weather conditions
The note from the Sicilian civil protection also speaks of adverse conditions. We read: “From the morning of Wednesday 8 May, and for the following 24-36 hours, scattered to widespread rainfall is expected, including showers or thunderstorms. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind.”
The forecast, improvement in the evening
The depression circulation, responsible for unstable weather, loosens its grip favoring an improvement in the evening.
On the Tyrrhenian coast, very cloudy or overcast skies with rain and showers, including thunderstorms, absorbing in the evening; on the Ionian coast, very cloudy skies in the morning with light rain, which will absorb during the afternoon; on the southern coast, on the Apennines and inland areas, very cloudy or overcast skies with rain and showers, including thunderstorms. In the evening, attenuation of the phenomena.
Weak winds from the north-eastern quadrants rotating to the south. Lower Tyrrhenian Sea from almost calm to rough; choppy channel; Sea of Sicily from rough to slightly rough.
Temperatures dropping
Temperatures drop in Sicily. Highs between 14 and 20 degrees.
18 degrees are expected in Agrigento, 16 in Caltanissetta, 20 in Catania, 14 in Enna, 20 in Messina, 19 in Palermo, 16 in Ragusa, 18 in Syracuse, 18 in Trapani.
In the rest of Italy
North. The pressure slowly begins to increase and so the day will be characterized by more unstable weather in the Alpine sectors where thunderstorms with local hail may occur. It will be drier and sometimes sunny on flat areas, but less so in Emilia and along the Po river in the morning. Weak winds from the northern quadrants, mild weather during the day.
Center and Sardinia. A cyclone affects our regions therefore if in the morning the weather will be largely dry, even if very cloudy or locally overcast, in the afternoon showers or thunderstorms will arrive in Lazio, Abruzzo and Molise, rarer in the Ascoli area and the Tuscan Maremma. The winds will blow weakly from the north, the climate will be mild. Locally rough seas.
South and Sicily. A cyclonic vortex reaches our regions therefore the day will start immediately compromised by rainfall in Sicily and Calabria, overcast skies and occasional showers elsewhere. During the day, showers or thunderstorms will also reach other regions, being locally intense. Light, variable winds. Seas generally smooth. Cooler climate.

An improvement is expected: the depression circulation, responsible for residual morning instability, moves away favoring an improvement but with still many clouds.
Specifically, on the Tyrrhenian coast, very cloudy or overcast skies in the morning with rain and showers, including thunderstorms. Absorption of phenomena in the afternoon; on the Ionian coast very cloudy or overcast skies in the morning with rain and showers, including thunderstorms, easing in the afternoon. Dry in the evening; on the southern coast very cloudy skies in the morning with light rain, absorbing in the afternoon with clearing in the evening; on the Apennines very cloudy or overcast skies in the morning with rain and showers, including thunderstorms, easing in the afternoon; in the internal areas very cloudy or overcast throughout the day with rain and showers in the afternoon, even with thunderstorms.

North. The pressure is increasing on our regions therefore the day will be characterized by mostly stable and sunny weather, in fact the sky will be slightly cloudy in most sectors. Only in the Alps, isolated thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon. Mild weather during the day. The winds will blow weakly from the northern quadrants.
Center and Sardinia. The pressure is increasing in our regions and so the day will be characterized by an irregularly cloudy sky. Of note is the possibility of brief and residual rainfall first on Abruzzo and Molise, especially in the inland areas, and then on the southern coasts of Lazio (in the afternoon). Mild weather during the day. Weak winds from the northern quadrants.
South and Sicily Our regions are influenced by the action of a cyclonic vortex. The day will be characterized by very unstable weather, in fact there may be numerous precipitations, sometimes thunderstorms or heavy ones. The weather, although very cloudy, will be drier in Puglia and western Sicily. Less hot climate, generally weak winds from variable directions.
