Corigliano-Rossano, the “third city of Calabria”. But from the fourth onwards… they are all richer than us – altrePagine

CORIGLIANO-ROSANO – We are poorer than the citizens of Acri, Castrovillari, Cariati, Montalto Uffugo, Paola, Rogliano, Scalea, Diamante, Carpanzano, Praia a Mare, Amantea, as well as Rende and Cosenza, for only keep to the latest statistical data relating to our province that they reveal our taxable income per capitaequal to 14,085 euros.

Corigliano-Rossano, the “capital” of the Ionian coast of Cosenza, is the so-called “third city of Calabria”. Yes, but only in consideration of number of its inhabitants. Which, howeversince 2018, when it was born, has always been decreasing:

as of January 1st this year the residents stood at 74,091, with a decrease in the last year of 209 units.

Just cold numbers?

No, because they “mean” something – perhaps even more than “something” – and they sound like a red warning light.

They mean, for example, that the city does not attract citizens residing in the neighboring municipalities to any “move”.especially among those who live in the smaller and more inland towns, those who refer to Corigliano-Rossano for services of all kinds, where they arrive every day.

But they don’t buy or rent a house there, taking up residence there.

The exact opposite of what happens in Rendebut also along the Tyrrhenian coast of Cosenza, in Paola, Scalea, Fiumefreddo Bruzio and San LucidoWhere the residents, on the other hand, are growing.

Corigliano-Rossano has become impoverished and – according to statistics – the merger of the two extinct municipalities has especially impoverished Corigliano, which when it was an autonomous city had always historically excelled in the province of Cosenza and for taxable income per capita than by number of residents.

Is it just the merger’s fault?

Certainly no, even if the latest report on the financial management of local authorities drawn up by the Autonomy Section of the Court of Auditors states that «if the size of the merger does not correspond to a consolidated identity process, but is dictated by contingent logics, its operational advantage must be effectively demonstrated; exceeding 60 thousand inhabitants could result in opposite effects due to the increase in complexity”.

The merger, had been well governed by the municipal administration, by politics and by the city ruling class (world of business, professions, social and trade union organizations) maybe it could have represented an opportunity.

In these 5 years, however, none of the actors who should have taken care of it and seriously took any strong and concrete initiativejust a few useless conferences little fists.

With a self-declared city for that pleasure of being able to say (but to whom, to ourselves?!) of having it longer than the othersbut only for summer concerts and New Year’s Eve and for the many other very expensive amenities useful exclusively to capture the consent of a bunch of idiots.

Capable and authoritative people have been kept well away from the stage for do not disturb the mastermind of the heapwhich through his arrogant personalism he administered day by day.

On 8 and 9 June we will vote for the municipal elections:

the main candidates for mayor are the one seeking confirmation and a well-known regional councillor, the citizens will go to vote as their “fans”, while the “third city of Calabria” languishes in its poverty. Amen. [email protected]
