Mirabilia comes of age: over two hundred events scheduled

“Gimme shelter” (Give me shelter/refuge) this is the title of the XVIII edition of Mirabilia International Circus & Performing Arts Festival, conceived and organized by the IdeAgorà Association with the artistic direction of Fabrizio Gavosto. An edition with the title of the eighth English album by the Rolling Stones, published on 29 November 1969: Gimme shelter is an intense song, almost an apocalyptic hymn, full of meaning because it was born in a climate of strong instability due, among other things, to the war in Vietnam; a sense of instability, perhaps of restlessness, very relevant today, in this historical period, in which we sometimes feel the need for a refuge to find well-being, welcome, beauty.

Mirabilia begins its “On the Road” dates on July 26th with the appointment in Alba, and then Savigliano, Vernante and Busca to end in the city of Cuneo which will welcome Mirabilia The Festival from August 28th to September 1st with a large program international relevance.

The programming of the shows, throughout the territory that will host the eighteenth edition of the multidisciplinary Festival, therefore starts from the current situation and expands to the concept of well-being and inclusion. Through the language of circus, dance, theater and clown, we encounter the themes of coherence, freedom of choice, acceptance, the value and beauty of diversity, the duty to fight for what we believe to be right and democratic. .

Mirabilia also reconfirms for this edition its strong orientation to the social dimension not only through the contents of the shows that speak a universal language but also in a dimension of accessibility that passes through the physical places and the topics covered. Mirabilia is a dreamlike dimension, young and playful yet not separated from reality, a shelter, a friendly island, an observation point, an ever new, light and at the same time intense gaze.

Mirabilia is a diffusion festival because it is a showcase where artists and programmers meet, it is a programming festival attentive to innovations, new languages, emerging artists, transdisciplinary proposals, and it is a creation festival that welcomes throughout the year , in Busca, in the artistic residency of companies and artists who intend to develop new entertainment projects. The Festival collaborates with numerous organizations and institutions, enriching the range of proposals for the public thanks to these beautiful and prestigious synergies.

In 2024 Mirabilia turns eighteen and naturally her coming of age is celebrated. For the occasion, a program of large national and international companies will be programmed, offering shows of great importance, as well as complex itineraries to discover the most innovative areas of the performing arts.

The XVIII edition of the Festival will therefore invade the wonderful city of Cuneo from 28 August to 1 September 2024, “occupying” as always multiple spaces and not only in the historic centre: courtyards, streets, squares, tents, gardens, halls, and will be preceded, as in past editions, from Mirabilia “On the road”: first stop in the “capital of the Langhe”, Alba, from 26 to 28 July, in the suggestive Cortile della Maddalena to continue in Savigliano on 3 and 4 August in the fascinating spaces of the Museum Piedmont Railway, in Vernante on 9,10,11 August with an intense program involving the splendid mountain municipality for three days, finally in the enchanting historic center of Busca, the last stop of Mirabilia On the Road from 22 to 25 August.

Numerous artistic excellences are scheduled for the 18th edition of the Festival, here are some very first previews: from Spain the historic Compagnia Los Galindos with the unmissable award-winning show MDR_Muerto De Risa; from Switzerland, Mirabilia in partnership with the OrienteOvest Festival of Rovereto, brings the national premiere of Panorama Kino, an innovative, participatory and site-specific show. The prestigious Italian company Teatro dei Venti returns with its new great traveling show Don Chisciotte; in collaboration with the Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo al Festival 2024 the Teatro La Ribalta directed by Antonio Viganò; the participant-spectators of La Scelta, by the Catalan artist, author and director Roger Bernat/FFF, will be the participatory direction that will choose a show for Mirabilia 2025! To date, there are already eight festivals in Europe that have determined a show title for their future edition thanks to the choices made by their spectators during this show. The award-winning, sweet and poignant Zloty from Pau Palaus also returns for a 1-month “On the Road” tour.

As always, the Festival will combine free proposals for the public with ticketed shows.
