On Sunday 5 May, the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, with the collaboration of the local volunteers of the Italian National Union of Volunteers for the Blind, organized a day where children and young people with visual disabilities were able, through manual skills, to do one of the most typical things of our kitchen: “knead and cook pizza”. Thanks to the participation of the master pizza chef Marco Christmas, it was possible for 10 young visually impaired people to experiment with manual skills and at the same time autonomy in the preparation of one of the most famous foods in the culinary world, the goal? A social pizza, where sharing and sensorial and emotional experiences reign supreme. After learning the dough techniques, we moved on to filling the magical discs, rich in nutritional principles and above all the enthusiasm of the participants and their families. The President of UICI Caserta, the lawyer. Giulia Antonella Cannavale: “It was an exciting day, seeing the kids interested in the techniques of dough, filling and cooking, it sparked a lot of curiosity and at the same time joy in the laboratory, the awareness of being able to do things brightened everyone’s faces, we can be satisfied with the result achieved: “manual skills, autonomy, sharing and conviviality”. The President UNIVo.C. Caserta, Vincenzo del Piano: “collaborating with the UICI is always a moment of growth for everyone, the social pizza laboratory was truly a river in flood, which overwhelmed everyone, just think that one of the most famous foods was shaped by young visually impaired people with passion and creativity. We will never tire of offering our volunteer work, for the creation of shared spaces and cohesion”. The day ended all together at the table, enjoying everyone’s culinary creations, young people, volunteers and families.
