“enough hypocrisy, photovoltaic (with wind) is measles on rural areas!”

In the national controversy on the stop to photovoltaics on agricultural land, we are witnessing the call to arms of the sector categories which, as for wind power, for years they have benefited from incentives, subsidies, concessions, deregulations… getting the wild west which has canceled the expectations of territorial planning in the South. An obvious reaction, therefore, of those who have their “hands in the cookie jar” of such interests.

More than understandable but it’s about “particular interests” and as such must not prevail in the balancing of evaluations with collective interests, by politicians and administrations responsible for governing the territory. Sadly, the opposite has always happened! The reaction of the FREE coordination (Renewable Sources) stands out, fearing alarmist consequences of a stop of these plants.

They are reprehensible – says Enzo Cripezzi of the Apulian LIPU – FREE’s claims according to which the energy objectives for 2030 would be compromised, given that the alternatives calculated by ISPRA (photovoltaic on surfaces already built or compromised) completely deny these gratuitous alarmisms. We do not need to humiliate further rural areas ! But the justifications given on the territorial compatibility of these works are decidedly serious because they would consume less than 1% of agricultural land“.

In reality – contested by the Apulian LIPU – photovoltaics is systematically focusing on the same type of agricultural and pastoral areas whose extensive homogeneity is compromised on a very large scale with a “measles” effect : in absolute terms, land consumption appears limited but, considering the parcelling out over huge territories, these are heavily degraded in their entirety, losing the peculiarities of wildlife habitats and rural landscapes. In fact, a surreptitious industrialization. The sieve of large areas of Pugliaand generally from the South, I am irrefutable testimony to this.

Furthermore, this useless degradation IS IN ADDITION (!) to that of many other works and systems in agricultural areas, ironically largely related to “”clean”” energy and also imposed with the logic of expropriations: large electrical stations, wind farms, runways, power lines.

Rather – they conclude from the Apulian LIPU – what is seriously minimized is to be stigmatised: agrivoltaics is even worse than photovoltaics, a lock pick to swallow photovoltaics on agricultural land with the excuse of an alleged compatibility decided upon at the table. Actually these are more impactful systems which should also be subject to limitations: tens, hundreds of hectares with panels raised from the ground through even more invasive structures, almost always worsening the crop structures, transforming open cereal-growing areas – functional to fauna species typical of large free spaces and very important for ecosystems, such as birds of prey – in “closed” areas occupied by high buildings and related intensive crops, with inevitable repercussions on biodiversity.
