A joint police and carabinieri operation is underway in Vibo Valentia for the execution of 14 precautionary measures ordered as part of an investigation by the Catanzaro DDA into four murders and two attempted murders committed in the Vibo area as part of clashes between gangs in the area.
The first crime is that of the insurer from Longobardi, a hamlet of Vibo, Michele Palumbo, killed on the evening of 11 March 2010 in front of his home while he was in the company of his daughters.
As soon as they got out of the car, a commando who had climbed over the surrounding wall went into action, killing the man believed to be the right-hand man in the area of Vibo and the coastal hamlets of the boss Pantaleone Mancuso, alias “Scarpuni” at the head of the armed wing of the Limbadi coterie.
Some collaborators of justice such as Raffaele Moscato, former shareholder of the “piscopisani” gang and Andrea Mantella, former splinter boss of Vibo, spoke about the murder. Both had implicated the “Piscopisans” who would have acted with the help of the friendly group of the Tripodi of Vibo Marina-Portosalvo.
The second episode concerns the double attempted murder of the Bellissimo brothers from Sant’Angelo Gerocarne, at the beginning of the 2000s.
Another crime is that of Davide Fortuna, which occurred on 6 July 2012 on the beach in Vibo Marina which is part of the feud between the “Piscopisans” – of which the victim would have belonged – and Stefanaconi’s Patania clan, for which there are already definitive sentences for principals and material executors.
Also subject to the investigation are a case of white lupara, that of Massimo Stanganello, and the murder of Mario Longo, which occurred on 1 April 2012 near the Triparni hamlet.
