Syracuse earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, securing the final first-round bye after making it to the ACC Tournament title game. Northwestern and Boston College earned the top two seeds, respectively.

SU will be the winner of Stony Brook and Niagara in the second round. Johns Hopkins, Fairfield, Binghamton and No. 6 seed Yale round out the Orange’s quadrant of the bracket. On March 5, then-No. 15 Stony Brook traveled to the JMA Wireless Dome and beat Syracuse 13-12 in overtime.

After losing against the Seawolves, the Orange’s record dropped to 3-3. Then, they embarked on a nine-game winning streak that propelled them to their first outright ACC regular season title. Though in its last regular season game, SU fell 11-10 to Boston College in overtime — its fifth-straight loss to the Eagles.

Despite coming off a loss heading into the ACC Tournament, Syracuse cruised past Louisville before playing then-No. 6 Virginia in the semifinals. Against UVA — who they beat 15-14 on March 23 — the Orange played their most complete game of the season, dominating in their 19-4 victory.

But in the title game versus BC, history repeated itself. While SU commanded a 5-1 lead in the first quarter, the Eagles tied the game 7-7 at halftime before blowing the Orange out in the second half en route to a 15-8 win.

In 2023, Syracuse made it to the NCAA Tournament semifinals, but lost 8-7 to Boston College. It was SU’s ninth Final Four appearance and its first under head coach Kayla Treanor. This year, the Orange look to make their fourth title game and bring home their first National Championship.
