He’s been looking for it for a long time and it’s finally here: Lando Norris wins the Miami GP. Beaten Verstappen, even with a bit of luck.

Incredible aspect of the Miami GP. The weekend seemed already marked, with Verstappen taking both the victory in the Sprint race and the two pole positions up for grabs. And incredibly so Norris wins, thus achieving his first career victory.

In Miami McLaren showed up with a large package of updates, complete on Norris’s car and 50% complete on Piastri’s. A big risk for the British team, considering that there would only be one Free Practice session.

Yet, the two drivers immediately seemed very fast and capable of challenging for pole in the Sprint Shootout, opportunity then wasted by Norris. Even in official qualifying, McLaren seemed fast, but in the end it took the lead fifth and sixth starting positions.

At the start of the GP, Norris stayed out of trouble compared to the chaos created by Perez and did his race. Good pace, but not yet enough to overtake. Then the Brit lights up, becoming the fastest in the race and extending the stint to the point of being able to take advantage of a stroke of luck: Norris is the only one of the drivers fighting for the podium who manages to take advantage of the SC to change compounds.

Driver number #4 comes out ahead of Verstappen and from then on not only becomes leader of the GP, but leads the Dutchman from lap to lap, until he takes his first career victory.

Norris’s words to the microphones of Sky Sport Italia

Interviewed by Mara Sangiorgio, Lando Norris tried to describe his emotions in the final laps: “It’s hard to describe, even in the last 10 laps of the race I don’t know what I was thinking, I was trying to think of something: am I happy? I’m excited? A lot of things were going through my head. Even in the helmet I was smiling, I told myself not to make a mistake, but I was already smiling. I worked a lot and today I reaped the rewards.”he said enthusiastically.

The Italian journalist then asked the driver when he felt he could win, to which he replied: “It was a bit of a risky thought, though already at the end of the first stint I was the fastest on the track. I could see Max on the opposite straight and just the fact that I saw him meant that we weren’t too far away. Surely I had some luckI recognize it and accept it, but sometimes you stay out because you hope an opportunity will come your way. In the last week we did a good job, managing the tires well and making the most of this opportunity.”.

Finally, the discussion moved on to the feeling of feeling all the support from the public and colleagues towards him: “It’s incredible when you do the return lap and see everyone cheering, they smile, they applaud you. It’s really something special, I don’t even know how to describe the feeling well, because I think there are very few things in the world that give you this emotion. I’m really grateful for all the people who supported me, so this win is for them. However it’s also nice to prove wrong many people who didn’t have faith in meI proved them wrong.”replied the Briton.
