The new defibrillator

The one inaugurated today, Sunday 5 May, it is the 14th defibrillator for the country. «San Giorgio – underlined the mayor Claudio Ruggeri – is particularly protected by AEDs: we started many years ago thanks to a good push we received to be able to equip our town with people who were able to use AEDs and then also with stations themselves”. The last inauguration of a defibrillator, positioned on the gate of the parish church in via Romadates back to December 2023. «We are well covered – added the mayor -, but it is never enough: for this reason it is important to have people trained in using this deviceeven if the latest generation AEDs are simple to use.”

The inauguration of the new station was possible thanks to Niccolò Paganini music school which donated the defibrillator, to the municipal administration and to the “60milavitedasalvare ODV” association. Some volunteers from the association were present at the event and explained its use. «It is a fully automatic defibrillator– explained the president Mirko Jurinovich – which differs from the semi-automatic one present mainly in the Alto Milanese area due to the lack of shock delivery buttonto use it you simply need to turn it on, apply the two stickers to the patient’s chest, wait for the analysis and then the discharge which occurs automatically.”

It is important to remember that thanks to law 116 of 2021 any citizen is authorized to use the defibrillator if necessary precisely by virtue of its simplicity and safety of use. «The widespread presence of these devices in the streets of the town – said Jurinovich – makes the health of citizens increasingly safe and cardioprotected, so a big thank you for the donation».

Also present at the event was Fabio Poretti from the Niccolò Paganini music school. «For our part – said Poretti – It is a pleasure to be able to donate this device in memory of Giovanna Lionzoa wonderful person and educator with whom we worked, who unfortunately is no longer here. With this inauguration I like to say that we will remember her forever».

Fabio Poretti has personally experienced the use of a defibrillator. «Having been there – said Poretti – I guarantee you that It is very important to listen to all the signals that our body gives us first and, when in doubt, it is always better to undergo tests. The mayor had also felt ill that morning but thought it was just a little weight on her stomach.”

«The proximity of this street to the waste collection center – added Ruggeri – has pushed us to make some reflections for years. It was a street that still didn’t have a name and we thought of naming it after her because she was a person who gave so much to San Giorgio. In her work she silently did what no one else had begun to understand was useful: the fact of manage waste so that it becomes a support for “higher” thingssuch as the help to the missionary nuns of San Giorgio”.

Some of Maria Vignati’s family members were also present at the naming of the street. «I am excited and proud of this – said Giovanni, one of Maria’s nephews – because I would never have thought that my aunt had a street in San Giorgio».
