After a weekend of stable weather, a new imminent worsening is preparing for Italy with strong thunderstorms. Here’s when the weather will change and where it will rain.

Impending worsening of the weather in Italy: thunderstorms return
Already from Monday 6 May, there will be a worsening of the weather in the regions of Northern Italy, due to the arrival of a depression from the British Isles. Initially the worsening will manifest itself with extensive cloud cover, but the first precipitations will also occur tomorrow, which could be snow at high altitude, in the Alps. Temperatures will begin to drop in the northern regions. On Monday we will still have a stationary situation in the center and south, although during the day we will notice signs of the upcoming change in weather.

It will be during the day of Tuesday 7 May which bad weather phenomena will become more widespread, with scattered thunderstorms and showers, and we will have compact cloud cover over much of the country. On this day the instability will mainly affect the central-north.
Wednesday 8 instead, according to our ECMWF reference model, we will see theextension of the phenomena also to the South, with thunderstorms and showers that will become widespread in the afternoon.
These bad weather conditions will continue into the day as well Thursday 9 May, but the improvement will begin with the displacement of the disturbance and the return of stable conditions gradually starting from the centre-north. However, the 9th will still be a day marked by strong storms, especially in the centre-south.
Possible good news for drought-stricken Sicily
The wave of bad weather coming it could bring relief to Sicily, hit by a serious drought: by Thursday our model predicts up to 60 mm of cumulative rain, especially in the northern part of the island.
