At the end of the first day of the World Specialty Championships underway in Nassau (Bahamas), Italy qualified three relay teams for the Olympics. With second place in the first heat of the World Relays, the Italians of the 4×100 earned their ticket to Paris 2024 with the team made up of Roberto Rigali, Marcell Jacobs, Lorenzo Patta and Filippo Tortu, who finished the race with a time of 38″ 14, ranking behind only the United States (37″49). Brazil ranked third with a time of 38”79. The women’s 4×100 relay, however, disappointed expectations, considering the fourth place obtained at the previous World Championships. The Italian quartet, composed of Zaynab Dosso, Dalia Kaddari, Anna Bongiorni and Alessia Pavese, took fourth place with a time of 43.08 seconds, behind Poland, Canada and China. The Italians will now have to face the repechage to try to qualify.
Also in Paris 2024 are the men’s and women’s 4×400 relays
The Italian 4×400 men relay also qualified thanks to the victory of its heat. Luca Sito, Vladimir Aceti, Edoardo Scotti and Davide Re ran in 3’01”68, preceding the United Kingdom (3’02”10) and Qatar (3’02”55). Also at the Olympics were the Italians in the 4×400, who won their heat: Rebecca Borga, Ayomide Folorunso, Giancarla Trevisan and Alice Mangione ran in 3’26”28, putting Canada (3’27”17) and Holland behind them (3’28”10).
