The match, which was supposed to start at 4.30pm, risked not being played due to an appeal lodged by the guests, due to an alleged irregularity on the pitch. Tempers flare up, the Massa management is angry as are the Nerazzurri players, while the Giallorossi ones are stunned. The referee’s decision is awaited and in the meantime the disputes between the two teams continue on the pitch. Finally the match director decides that the game can be played as long as the regulation measures of the pitch lines are restored. The local fans rush to buy spray cans and, together with the players, make the pitch homologated. The match begins with tempers overheated but, at least in the first half, there are no significant actions to be seen. In the second half Massa immediately took the lead with Cappiello from open play and, for almost the entire second half, the home team held their own, even risking a double. A few minutes from the end, however, San Vito restored parity on a free kick, allowing the match to continue until extra time. The half hour of the latter appears infinite: San Vito attacks incessantly, despite being left with 10 men due to Pommella’s expulsion but, in the end, not without a brawl in the last minutes, the match ends in a draw, a result that decrees that Massa will remain in the category and that the Giallorossi will be relegated. Congratulations to all the guys who ran for 120 minutes, many of whom finished with cramps, giving their all for their jersey.
