Rimini, thief attacks an ATM and loses an arm in the explosion: the gang runs away and leaves him there

RIMINI – They attempted to attack an ATM not far from the hospital in Cattolica (Rimini) but one of the gang members was seriously injured: a canister of explosives exploded in his hand and the man – 36 years old, of Romanian origin and resident in Forlì – lost his forearm. When the police arrived, the man was on the ground holding the stump of his right arm, while his accomplices had fled. The injured man was rescued.

It happened this night around 4, local newspapers report, at a RivieraBanca branch in Piazza Berlinguer. The thieves first blew up the ATM, then tried to do the same with the internal safe, but at that point there was an explosion that seriously injured a member of the gang.

The man was taken to Cesena hospital, his limb was amputated; the 36-year-old – who also has injuries to his torso and face – was arrested in flagrante delicto on charges of attempted aggravated theft and is being held in hospital awaiting validation of the arrest.
