In recent days the first meeting of the “Citizen Committee of Livorno for the Centenary of the massacre of Giacomo Matteotti” was held, which currently gathers the membership of the Associations “Il Pentagono”, Livorno Association of Letters, History and Arts, ISTORECO, Circolo “GE Modigliani”, Libertàeguale “Nino Tonziello”, ANED, IPPOGRIFO, Città Diversa 2024, PSI Livorno città, and numerous citizens in a personal capacity.
On this occasion it was decided to participate on 30 May 2024 in the event to be held at the Fratellanza Artigiana (Piazza dei Domenicani) with the screening of a part of the film “Il delitto Matteotti” by Florestano Vancini with the original shot of the Giacomo Matteotti’s speech in Parliament, during which he contested the validity of the political elections of 6 April 1924 with the decisive and detailed denunciation of fascist violence. On 10 June 2024, the anniversary of the kidnapping and killing of Giacomo Matteotti, the Committee will promote a ceremony with the laying of a wreath at the civic plaque in Piazza G. Matteotti. In the following period, numerous other initiatives are also planned to remind young people in particular of the figure and testimony of Giacomo Matteotti, which will be promptly communicated to citizens through all media.
Finally, it is underlined that membership of the Committee is constantly open to all Associations and all citizens who share its values and aims and it is hoped that, following the closure of the current procedural phase for the administrative and European elections, the representatives of the Local institutions can make their important contribution.
