Plan C. The history of the Capodimonte neighborhood in Ancona

Capodimonte is a place where history and contemporaneity merge and in this fertile soil we have put down roots and we want to grow and contribute to the cultural proposals of the city”, continues Carnevali, hoping that Piano C will become a cultural reference point for the Marche capital. Capodimontein fact, is one of the oldest districts of Ancona – here, for example, is the Church of the SS. Sacramentbuilt between 1539 and 1548, in which works by Bellini are preserved – and former Jewish ghetto – established in 1555 and where, in via Astagno, the Synagogue has been located since 1876 –, also known for being the birthplace of the actress Virna Lisi in 1936. Here, in recent years, the inhabitants have expressed the need for cultural events and the opening of new premises to deal with the rampant neglect, including bivouacs and improvised landfills. “We chose this neighborhood not by chance where street art has colored ancient alleys that climb up to open up onto Ancona from above and embrace it with one’s gaze and where memory does not fear the future and new perspectives”, explains the curator.
