The police intervened around 8 am this morning at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, following a report of an accident involving a worker.

Once the police arrived on site, they made contact with one of the two workers who was at the scene of the event at the time of the accident. The man, of Romanian origin, said that he was working on the construction site with a colleague, born in ’82 of Bangladeshi origin, and suddenly an explosion occurred. In particular, the Romanian subject narrated that while his colleague was using a torch, the sparks produced by the work tool hit a part of the construction site inside which there was easily flammable gaseous material. The substance was at a lower level than the floor on which the Bengali was working and the sparks produced, in contact with the flammable substance, caused an explosion which blew up the cover. Due to this the Bangladeshi was hit by the blown manhole due to the explosion in his arm and was immediately helped by his colleague (who in the meantime had temporarily moved away and therefore remained unharmed). The man suffered injuries to his arm but they are not life-threatening. The police alerted medical personnel to the scene who transported the man to the local hospital.
