Sassari Sardinian Cavalcade Program 2024: The parade on Sunday 12 May will start at 9am from Corso Cossiga and will continue in the streets of the center (Garibaldi hemicycle, via Brigata Sassari, via Cagliari, Borgone and Crispo porticoes, piazza d’Italia) up to via Roma. The procession includes over two thousand people in traditional dress who will parade through the streets of the center with gold, jewels and typical local products, including breads and sweets which are true works of art. At the start of the procession, the Carabinieri on horseback and in full uniform and the drummers of the city groups. This year the folk groups, bearers of cultures, traditions, belonging, pride and memories, will parade in alphabetical order, interspersed with Sardinian mask rituals of uncertain origins: the Thurpos of Orotelli, the Mamutzones of Samugheo, Sos Colonganos of Austis, Mamuthones and Isohadores “Atzeni” from Mamoiada and Sos Merdules Betzos from Ottana. Followed by the 120 women in traditional dress representing all the territories of Sardinia and closing the procession is the historic Orsa Siata Spring 1968 car (the only Italian car produced in Sardinia, in Cagliari) which symbolically “links” the previous editions of the Sardinian Cavalcade with the one whose 73rd edition is honored today. The event ends with the impressive procession made up of 170 horses and the parade of 25 couples on horseback and saddles representing 11 municipalities that participated in the parade.

The pairs. The afternoon is dedicated to historical bridle and seddazzu pariglie, traditional equestrian jousts in which riders perform spectacular acrobatics on running horses. The event will be held as usual at the Pinna racecourse. The start is scheduled for 4.30pm. The groups of Assemini, Fonni, “Logudoresa”, Norbello, Ovodda and San Vero Milis will participate, guaranteeing at least three passes.

The review of songs and dances. The event is accompanied by performances of traditional Sardinian songs and dances, curated and conducted by Giuliano Marongiu, during which the folk groups and island artists perform between Saturday and Sunday on the stage in Piazza d’Italia from 6pm, offering a vast musical and choreographic repertoire. In the parlor of Sassari the sounds of the launeddas, the unmistakable voices of tenore songs, accordions, accordions and polyphonic choirs will alternate. The dance groups will be the protagonists of the two evenings marked by musical tradition and the colors of the clothes worn by the participants.

The events of the “Eugenio Tavolara” craftsmanship pavilion. The prestigious exhibition space of the Tavolara Pavilion acquires an even more significant value on the occasion of the Cavalcata Sarda. The exhibition “L’Onda Nuragica”, curated by the Nivola Foundation, offers the public the reflections of the “nuragic discourse” in various areas of visual production: from painting and sculpture to architecture, design and craftsmanship, from audiovisual to social media and mass culture. The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 8pm. For information: 329 1942242 – This email address is protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. On the ground floor, the Salone delle Botteghe, a space currently entrusted to Confartigianato Imprese Sassari, offers hundreds of objects typical of the Sardinian artisan tradition, revisited and transformed into unique articles. The space is open from Tuesday to Sunday, in the morning from 10am to 1pm, and in the afternoon from 5pm to 8pm. For information: 340 6009164
