Regarding the news reported in recent days in some press outlets, the Local Health Authority of Salerno specifies the following.
The company’s diabetes network has been structured and functioning for years, covering the entire territory of the province of Salerno. In fact, there are 19 level II Corporate Diabetes Centers (CAD) planned, of which 14 are already active, through which the ASL guarantees assistance and treatment services for the many people suffering from diabetes.
Diabetes is one of the chronic diseases with the highest prevalence in the population. Also for this reason, the company organizational model has envisaged that this chronic pathology, which requires a specifically territorial path and proximity to the patient’s needs, has the CAD as the fulcrum of governing the care path.
Furthermore, the path is totally computerized, with an informative and digitized folder available that puts all the company CADs online. Furthermore, the network provides for the active integration of general practitioners, who participate in the management of the care path of the person suffering from diabetes.
In the logic of hospital-territory integration, the company hospital departments have the important task of carrying out the first cycle of therapy and of leading the treatment process, once the patient has been discharged, directly to the CAD who takes care of the person.
Specifically, referring to the episodes reported in some press outlets, it is specified that a fully operational Level II Diabetes Center has been operating for years with two diabetes specialists for Health District no. 64 of Eboli-Buccino and located directly in the city of Eboli. In fact, around 5 thousand services are carried out annually by the two local diabetologists which are integrated with the activities carried out by the hospital’s operational units.
