Venetians blocked in Yemen, nightmare over: return scheduled for May 5th

Fifteen Italian tourists, from different regions including Veneto, are currently stranded on the island of Socotraoff the coast of Yemen, due to the repeated cancellation of the return flight.

Although the Foreign Ministry had advised against travel to that area, elthe Italian embassy in Sanaa had suspended its activities, the group of tourists had decided to undertake the journey.

The nurse Ludovica Russo, 34 years old, from Bellunosaid that the group had started the tourist trip on April 22nd and had planned to return to Italy on April 30th.

Subsequently, due to adverse weather conditions, the return flight was moved to May 3 despite there being no bad weather on the island, and subsequently, the flight was canceled again without a clear explanation.

The situation caused panic among tourists, some of whom despaired. Family members and friends of the tourists immediately contacted the Foreign Ministry to understand the reason for the cancellation of the flight and to try to organize their return as soon as possible.

Fortunately in the last few hours, the staff of the crisis organization of the Veneto Region has announced that the tourists will return to Italy.

The return flight is scheduled for May 5thstarting from Abu Dhabi at 5.30am and restart from Socotra at 8:30.

Despite the tour operators had warned the travellers, before departure, of the risks they could be exposed to, the group had still decided to complete the journey.

At the moment, no particular critical issues have been reported, but uncertainty and discomfort persist until the scheduled return.
