ANCONA – The Association of Contemporary History is preparing to land at the 36th edition of the Turin International Book Fair which will be held from 9 to 13 May 2024. On this occasion it will present its latest editorial news such as the “History of the Guardia di Finanza in Italy from 1774 to 2024” and the monograph on the history of women (“The fractures of memory. History of women in Italy from 1848 to the present day”, Marsilio, 2023) by Marco Severini, the book dedicated to one of the most well-known activists South Africans by Sara Carbone (“Stephen Bantu Biko. A testament of hope”, Marsilio, 2024) and the long-awaited “History of the Marche in the contemporary age 1797-2022” (edited by M. Severini, 1797 editions, 2024), the first wide-ranging historical reconstruction of the history of the Marche, cultivated in its most disparate aspects, from the historical-political approach to the socio-economic one, from the historical-cultural one to the sporting one, without forgetting the properly historiographical one.

The very recent “Ventuno Parole” will also be present. Lemmarium of history and female life in the contemporary world” (edited by L. Pupilli and M. Severini, 1797 editions, 2024), which has enjoyed considerable success, so much so that the first edition is running out. The typical polycentrism of the Marche, the Association states, has had an impact on the historiographical production of the last 75 years: valuable and documented volumes have been published on the history of the Marche, but an overall reconstruction capable of combining analysis and synthesis and to investigate specific and sectoral aspects. Furthermore, the latest editorial efforts have not always presented the main marks of historicity. «Just to give an example, the volume promoted by the Marche History Institute in 2020, dedicated to the history of the Marche in the period 1970-2020 – they say from the Association -, proposed essays of considerable scientific validity, but turned out to lack the Index names and even brief information on the authors”.

A declared intent of the Association of Contemporary History, which has in the meantime reached 510 members, was to take care of these historic brands, together with that of spreading them not only in the region, but in the national and international context. Some of the texts cited above were presented last March at the headquarters of the Italian Cultural Institute in Munich, in a room packed with an audience and, in April, at the Chamber of Deputies and at the State Archives of Rome. «The Association – he continues – is already looking to the next events at the end of spring which, after the Turin Show, will reaffirm the significant synergies it has signed with important local and national bodies: among the latter we must include a significant collaboration with the CNR».
