Double date with Saint Nicholas on Friday 3 May. At 10 in the morning the painting stopped at Municipality V of Bariin the church of San Nicola a Catino, while the mini procession dedicated to people with disabilities. This last event, which is part of the calendar of religious celebrations, saw the participation of the prior Father Giovanni Dtante and the sailors of the translation accompanied by the drums of the Militiae Sancti Nicolae.

The event

The event was coordinated by the president of the Italian Movement Disabled of Bari, Nicola Papagna, with the collaboration of associations, bodies and volunteers, including Impegno 95, represented by the president Gaetano Balena, the medical director Nicola Dellino and the director Antonio Iurlaro of the Caterina 3 day center in Monopoli; the Palese Insieme association, led by the president Michele Brancale, the manager Sante Scaranello of Unitalsi in Bari, and Gianna Gentile, coordinator of the students. This year’s motto was “Stop the war in the name of Saint Nicholas”. The meeting with the municipalities took place in Catino, after the cancellation of the stop at the Due Giugno park due to bad weather. Present at the celebration were the president Vincenzo Brandi and the councilor Pierucci. As per the calendar, in addition to the parade of the saint’s painting, there was the traveling exhibition “A ma sci alla Caravelle”, curated by Aps “I figuranti di San Nicola” with information, archive photos, some of the most beautiful posters and significant events of the feast of Saint Nicholas from the 1950s to today, the workshops organized by the Aps-Ets Brvndisivm Historica and the corner “In the shoes of the Middle Ages”. At the end, the actor Francesco Ocelli, in the role of Nicephorus, author of the first account of the translation of the body of Saint Nicholas, recited in verse the adventure of the sailors returning from Myra. This last appointment today at San Paolo, Municipality III, in the Mother of Divine Providence parish, at San Paolo.

The traffic plan for public holidays

In view of the key days of the festival, which are the 7th (day of the procession), the 8th (St. Nicholas Day) and the 9th (when the holy manna is collected), the first parking bans start from today . Throughout today and tomorrow the ban on stopping will be in force on Piazza della Libertà and Strada Palazzo dell’Intendenza, in the stretch between Vico Prefettura and Strada Barone. While for May 6th there is a ban on stopping in the prefecture area and on a large part of the central seafront, and a ban on transit on the Imperatore Augusto seafront, including the narrow streets leading to the Old City as well as Piazza San Nicola and Largo Urbano II . In the evening, for the re-enactment of the translation of the bones, transit is prohibited along the route of the short procession that goes from the Sant’Antonio pier to the church of San Michele. To avoid too much inconvenience to holders of Zsr A, Zsr B, Zsr C, Zsr D and Ztl passes, they will be allowed, from midnight on 6 May to midnight on 9 May, to park for free in all parking spaces included in the zone regulated parking, without limitation relating to the subzone to which it belongs.
