FERRARA, WEEKEND EVENTS UNTIL MAY 5. THEATER IN THE OPEN SPACES, VIDEOMAPPING, EXTENSIVE GARDENS, EXHIBITIONS, FOOD AND WINE AND CRAFTS

Ferrara, 03 May 2024 – From Friday 3 to Sunday 5 May, the city of Este comes alive with events dedicated to those looking for fun and culture, art, music, entertainment and moments in the open air on the weekend.

NEW VIDEOMAPPING SHOW

This year videomapping colors the façade of the Doge’s Palace, including the tower. Until Sunday 5 May the “D’Arme & d’Amore” show, dedicated to the ancient history and tradition of the Palio, will come to life in the historic centre. Designed by Andrea Bernabini and Sara Caliumi, with music by Davide Lavia, the multimedia installation of artistic video art will enchant those present from 9.00pm to 1.00am (with a repeat every 20 minutes), telling stories of heroes, swords, passions, sacrifices and love.

Furthermore, on Saturday 4 May, the experience will be further enriched starting from 10.30pm, thanks to the live DJ set by Lorenzo de Blanck from Ferrara, who will perform from the balcony of the Sala dell’Arengo of the Municipal Palace.

WAITING FOR THE PALIO AMONG THE FRECCE TRICOLORI

The long-awaited Palio di Ferrara is less and less missing. On Saturday 4 May, Piazza Cattedrale will welcome, starting from 4.00 pm, the Blessing of the Palios and the offering of the candles. For the occasion, the MB-339 PAN (National Acrobatic Team) of the “Frecce Tricolori” will fly over Ferrara at 3.45 pm, on the Corso Martiri della Libertà route, dyeing the sky green, white and red.

ARCHEOLOGY

For archaeological enthusiasts, on Saturday at 11.30am, the National Archaeological Museum hosts the free meeting “Work in progress. First results from the second excavation campaign at the Delizia di Belfiore”.

EXHIBITIONS, ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY

Escher and Mirabilia Estensi remain of great attraction in Palazzo dei Diamanti; Nino Migliori. An endless search at the Estense Castle; “Yours in Solidarity. Other stories between art and words” – XX Biennale Donna at Palazzo Bonacossi; Between land and sea at the Natural History Museum (only on Fridays from 9:00 to 13:00). Jews in the Italian twentieth century can also still be visited at the MEIS and Ferrara, the city’s theatre, in the illustrations by Claudio Gualandi on the walls of the Rotonda Foschini, as well as the photographs dedicated to Abbado by Marco Caselli Nirmal.

On Saturday, at the Consorzio Factory Grisù, Make Together will be held, with a workshop by the artist and academic Kamilia Kard at 10:30, followed at 9:00 by her evocative performance.

EXTENSIVE GARDENS

On Saturday 4th (from 9.30am to 7.30pm) and Sunday 5th (from 9am to 7.30pm) the Massari Park will be filled with a thousand scents and colors with Giardini Estensi. In addition to around eighty exhibitors who will bring a variety of horticultural excellence to Ferrara, there will be craft stands, quality artefacts and gardening equipment, 7 themed meetings, 11 free workshops and the market exhibition dedicated to rare plants. The event is preceded by the speech “The tribe of trees” by the arboriculture specialist Stefano Mancuso (Friday 3 May at 5.30 pm in the Sala Estense). Furthermore, again for the occasion, there will be the extraordinary opening of the Botanical Garden on Saturday and Sunday, while a guided tour with designer Manfredi Patitucci will be held in the gardens of Palazzo Schifanoia on Saturday at 10:00.

BELL’ITALIA TOURS AND MARKETS

In Ferrara there is never a shortage of delicious events! From 3 to 5 May (Friday from 5pm to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday from 9am) Bell’Italia Tour will be set up in Piazza Trento Trieste, a traveling event dedicated to Italian food and wine culture, with tastings, market exhibitions, shows and the possibility of purchasing quality food products.

Other markets will give Ferrara new nuances over the weekend: the Fair of things from times gone by (Saturday and Sunday along the sidewalk of the former Palazzo della Ragione and Corso Porta Reno); the Farmer’s Market (Sunday in Piazza Municipale); the creative market of the artisan artists Art of Ferrara (Sunday at the Gardens 20 and 29 May 2012 in Viale Cavour).

THEATER

While the well-known couple Nuzzo and Di Biase will be on stage at the Teatro Comunale with a small masterpiece of the theater of the absurd, “Delirio a due”, (Friday and Saturday at 8.30 pm), the 1st edition of Rabicano – International Festival of Theater for Open Spaces will flow through the streets and squares of Ferrara and its suburbs. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Teatro Nucleo company, until May 12th, 31 theater companies from all over Europe will perform 37 shows of different nature in 31 different locations, bringing theater into open spaces. CONCERTS & MUSIC

The Jazz Club never stops! Three new concerts will fill the tower with music: on Friday the saxophonist Michele Polga, on Saturday the Bosnian drummer Dejan Terzic Axiom, on Sunday Songs From The Unknow Erasmus + Blended Intensive Program with the participation of the students of the “G. Frescobaldi” Conservatory of Ferrara. All concerts will start at 9.30pm.

Furthermore, on Saturday, at 3.30 pm at the Ridotto of the Teatro Comunale, a new event of Ferrara Cameristica 2024 dedicated to Russian music between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries will be held.

ENTERTAINMENT

Also on May 4th, in the green area of ​​the parish of Viconovo, a day dedicated to gospel music, with the “Vico Gospel Choir” workshop (from 10:00 to 12:30), followed by the twinning concert between Ferrara Gospel Academy and Cervia Gospel Soul (from 5.30pm to 7.30pm).

And again, on May 4th at 3pm at the Estense Castle, it will be possible to attend Energia della Terra, the artistic-educational project by Liubov Kardash.

OPEN AIR

To conclude the varied range of initiatives of the weekend, there will be no shortage of events in contact with nature: on Sunday it will be possible to take part in an organized walk along the embankment and floodplain of the river Po (from 4.00pm to 7.00pm) and in the navigation from the Ferrara dock on the Po di Volano (from 4pm to 6pm).
