“la Magna Capitana” of Foggia joins “Il Maggio dei Libri”

Eight events in all, including an exhibition of vintage postcards, four workshops dedicated to haiku for the little ones, a tribute to Dino Buzzati and two listening guides, organized by the “la Magna Capitana” Library of Foggia which also year joins The May of Booksthe national campaign to promote reading, now in its fourteenth edition, on the initiative of Center for Books and Reading.

We start with the exhibition The Sele fountain 100 years after its inaugurationwhich exhibits at Natural History Museum of Foggiaanother structure of the Biblio-Museum Centre, in viale Giuseppe Di Vittorio, 31, le vintage postcards kept by the Section Special Funds of the Library. A collection that documents the day of March 21, 1924in which the starfish-shaped concrete fountain designed by the Ravenna engineer was inaugurated Cesare Brunetti. Initially it was supposed to be a temporary fountain to celebrate the inauguration of the Foggia section of the Apulian aqueduct. In reality, the Sele fountain – so called because the water came from one of the most important rivers in Campania, the Sele – has not only remained permanently, but has become one of the most important symbols of our city.

Also on display are postcards from the 1910s and 1920s, to document the urban development of the square, as well as the original copy of the national weekly Corriere Sunday who dedicated ample space to the inauguration of the fountain, with the cover by Achille Beltrame. The exhibition will be open until May 31stevery day from Monday to Friday, with guided tour from 9.00 to 13.00 and with free visit from 2.30pm to 7.30pm and on Saturdays always from 9.00 to 13.00.

The children will listen to some Japanese poetic compositions, in the classic three-line haiku structure, and then will try their hand at poetic production of haiku and visual poetry.

Inspired by the life choices of the German writer and poet, naturalized Swiss, Nobel Prize winner, who found the path to spiritual freedom in various artistic expressions, the guide will draw on the languages ​​of art, music and verses to retrace the path that from materiality rises to transcendence.

During the evening, excerpts from a documentary inspired by Hesse’s life will be commented on, excerpts from Chopin and some poems will be read aloud.

Same formula, but change of location, for Thursday’s listening guide May 23at 18.00to the natural History Museumby title Mozart as Dante. On the way to freedom. The journey of the Supreme Poet towards purification through the theological virtues of faith, hope and charity will be retraced. We will read the verses of the three songs that underline the passage towards freedom. Selected pieces of Gregorian chants, mixed voices and polyphonic choirs by Anton Bruckner they will be listened to and commented on during the meeting. As always, the listening guides are designed and conducted by the librarian and conductor Marco Maria Lacasella. The readings of the pieces will be carried out by the librarian Elviranna Susanna.
