MOZZAGROGNA. He fell from a ladder while working in a factory. A 21 year old from Monteodorisio, SDS, was hospitalized for polytrauma after a fall from about four meters high. The accident at work occurred around 10.30 yesterday in the Pugliese Industria Meccanica Srl company, in Castel di Sette, in Mozzagrogna. The young man, an employee of the company specializing in metal carpentry and wind towers, was on a ladder while he was busy with his work in the assembly department.
According to initial reconstructions, the worker lost his balance and fell to the ground, hitting his head and back. He was immediately helped by his work colleagues, who alerted the emergency services. The 118 staff arrived on site and, after having stabilized the 21-year-old, transferred him by air ambulance to the trauma department of the Santo Spirito hospital in Pescara. Here he underwent diagnostic tests. The young man suffered superficial head trauma, broken ribs and an arm. He is being kept under observation but is out of danger.
The carabinieri of the Fossacesia station and the Ortona company have carried out the legal findings and are reconstructing the dynamics and methods of the accident at work. Local health authority inspectors were also on site to check whether the safety regulations in the workplace had been applied.
And the same Mozzagrogna plant was the protagonist, on 25 August 2023, of another accident with, in that case, lethal consequences. Mattia Finocchio, 34 years old, from Tornareccio, an electrical technician for an external company, had been hit on the head by a piece of iron that had come loose following the explosion of a compressed air pipe. The young man had finished the maintenance work but, inevitably, had gone back to make sure he hadn’t forgotten any work tools. Mattia died four days later in Pescara hospital, where he had been hospitalized following the serious head injury. (s.so.)
