Maintenance work on the Limina and Torbido tunnels begins

As is known, Anas, a company of the Infrastructure Hub of the FS Italiane Group, will start the scheduled maintenance works of the ‘Limina’ and ‘Torbido’ tunnels on the state road 682 ‘Jonio Tirreno’, in the province of Reggio Calabria, from this night. The interventions concern in particular the rehabilitation of the reinforced concrete structures of the ‘Torbido’ tunnel and the rehabilitation of the final lining and wastewater collection of the ‘Limina’ tunnel.

To allow the work to be carried out, some transit restrictions will be necessary. The management of the road system and the operating methods were explored and shared at the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria, during the numerous meetings in recent months with representatives of the territory, interested bodies and law enforcement agencies, to keep traffic inconveniences to a minimum.

In detail, starting from this evening, the state road 682 ‘Jonio Tirreno’ will be closed to traffic exclusively during night time from 10.00 pm to 6.00 am in both directions between the Limina (km 18.100) and Mammola (km 28), in the province of Reggio Calabria.

During daytime from 6:00 to 22:00 transit will be allowed along the entire SS682, with alternating one-way traffic regulated by traffic lights at the ‘Torbido’ tunnel.

During closing times, cars and vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes will be diverted onto the alternative road system, consisting of provincial road 5. Those traveling in the Tirreno direction will have to exit at the Mammola junction and return to the Limina junction. Conversely, for light vehicles heading towards Jonio the mandatory exit is at the Limina junction with return to the Mammola junction.

For heavy vehicles over 3.5 tonnes the following alternative routes are provided:

-for vehicles coming from the north/Tyrrhenian area both from the motorway and from secondary roads, and headed on the SS106/Grotteria Mammola, the recommended route includes the exit at the Lamezia Terme motorway junction with continuation on SS280-SS106-SS 682 direction Sweet violet;

-for vehicles coming from the north/Ionian belt both from the SS106 and from the secondary roads, and heading to Cinquefrondi, the recommended route involves entering the former SP 16 in Bellino with continuation on the SS106 Var up to the SS280 dir –SS280 towards Lamezia Thermal baths and entry onto the A2 motorway up to the Rosarno-SS 682 junction towards Limina;

-for vehicles coming from the South, both from the motorway and from secondary roads, and headed on the SS106/Grotteria M, the recommended route involves exiting at the Lamezia Terme motorway junction and continuing on SS280-SS106-SS682 towards Mammola.

The overall expected duration of the works is 18 months.
