New Vaporetti in Venice – Il Nuovo Terraglio

Venice welcomes five new vaporettos, marking a step forward towards more modern and sustainable public transport.

VENICE. Today five boats built by Siman on behalf of the Venetian Mobility Company entered into service, following a project started in 2022. These new means of transport were presented at the Tronchetto dock and from there they will begin their routes along the Canal Grande, the San Marco Basin and the Giudecca Canal.

The arrival of these vaporettos represents an important step towards the modernization and sustainability of Venetian public transport. The interiors of the boats have been completely renovated, offering bench seating, monitors, wi-fi, luggage space and air conditioning. Furthermore, the engine is designed to reduce polluting emissions, reaching the Euro 6 standard, the highest currently available for inland navigation.

This public transport upgrade is part of a broader vision for the lagoon city. The mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, announced that by 2027 the Grand Canal will be served exclusively by hybrid vehicles, underlining the city’s commitment to more sustainable solutions.

With the new vaporettos, Venetians and visitors will be able to enjoy an improved service, which combines comfort, technology and sustainability.
