Giro d’Italia: the Grande Partenza presented, third stage Novara-Fossano on Monday

At the presentation, at the Egyptian Museum, of the Grande Partenza of the 107th edition of the Giro d’Italia, starting tomorrow with the Venaria Reale-Turin, the spotlight was also on the Novara-Fossano which on Monday (preceded on Sunday by the San Francesco stage at Campo-Sanctuary of Oropa) will bring the “pink race” back to the City of Acaja. In the 165 km of a largely flat section, the runners will however have the fatigue of two initial stages that are anything but smooth in their legs. Yesterday, with the president of the Region Alberto Cirio, the mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo, Evelina Christillin (president of the Egyptian Museum), there were also the director of the Giro Mauro Vegni, the CEO of RCS Paolo Bellino and, as a guest of honor (very applause), «Jaws» Vincenzo Nibali. For journalists there was also an interesting guided tour of the Museum (in the bicentenary of its foundation) and a pleasant cocktail at Eataly, sponsor of the white jersey for the best young rider of the Giro. On Monday, departure from Novara is scheduled for 1.10pm. After having crossed several towns in the provinces of Vercelli, Alessandria and Asti, the caravan will enter the Cuneo area from Canove, when there will be around 50 km left to the finish line in viale Regina Elena in Fossano, scheduled to start at 5pm, preceded around 3pm, 30 from the arrival of the Cherasco-Fossano of the Giro E. Towards the event, the Fossano organizers had promoted wonderful meetings for enthusiasts with Stefano Garzelli, Gianni Bugno, Vincenzo Nibali and Claudio Chiappucci. «I am linked to Piedmont in terms of cycling – says Vincenzo Nibali – because in Cuneo in 2010 I wore the pink jersey for the first time and in 2016, in Turin, I won my second Giro d’Italia. I have wonderful memories of those days, and that victory was special also thanks to the support of the public which was immense. I really like the design of the first fractions, and I think we’ll see the big names moving right away. The number one favorite is Tadej Pogacar, but I am convinced that there will still be a battle and I am curious to see what the young Italian talents will do at the start.” There are many events scheduled for the Turin stage: «The Giro is a global event – explains Paolo Bellino, CEO of RCS Sport -; Turin will dress in pink also thanks to the collateral events. We immediately made a crackling start and are convinced that the profile of the first stages will make this Great Departure unforgettable.” «Culture and sport – concludes Evelina Christillin, president of the Egyptian Museum – are universal languages. The major sporting events have made and make Turin known also from a cultural point of view. Thanks to RCS Sport for involving the Egyptian Museum in the first stage in the year in which it is preparing to celebrate its first bicentenary.”
