No water in Caltanissetta, three breakdowns in a few days: the mayor closes the schools

Poor water distribution in Caltanissetta, and so the mayor Roberto Gambino with an ordinance has suspended lessons in schools of all levels for tomorrow. The mayor’s decision was taken at the conclusion of a technical meeting that he requested and obtained from the Prefecture of Caltanissetta.

Today there is no water in the urban area and the tankers of the Caltaqua company, which carries out the distribution service throughout the province of Caltanissetta, were used to supply water to sensitive places, namely the Sant’Elia hospital, the prison facility and the center for the repatriation of migrants in Pian del Lago.

The Siciliacque company has guaranteed that distribution will take place during the night starting from the lower area. The pipeline that brings water from Ancipa to Caltanissetta has broken down three times in recent days and the effects on the population have been serious.

After the meeting in the Prefecture, the mayor Gambino said he was «dissatisfied due to the vague and incomplete answers provided by SiciliAcque regarding the state of the current pipeline, the reasons that led to three failures in the space of a few days and above all on the identification of any responsibilities”.
Hence the request to the President of the Region Renato Schifani for «a new water pipeline that brings drinking water from the dams to the taps of our homes, a modern, safe pipeline, capable of dealing with the long droughts that await us. We Nisseni are thirsty for justice and fairness.”
