Bolzano. For goods deliveries, the criterion of volume and not weight prevails

The new regulation for the delivery of goods and the rules that came into force from 1 February 2023 relating to limited traffic zones in Bolzano were at the center of a meeting between the leaders of wholesale traders in the Alto Adige Tourism Services Trade Union and the competent municipal councilors. The deputy mayor Stephan Konder, the municipal councilor for the economy Johanna Ramoser and the municipal councilor for mobility Stefano Fattor spoke with the president of the category Werner Gramm and the two members of the board Roman Tschimben and Christian Ossanna. The entrepreneurs presented a new proposal for the optimization of the delivery of goods, in particular of food, frozen foods and drinks.
“Some challenges have emerged since the entry into force of the new regulation,” President Gramm pointed out. Above all, the effects on the delivery of goods and the increase in traffic were discussed. “With our proposal it is about best harmonizing the interests of the Municipality, citizens, companies and wholesalers,” assured Gramm.
An important proposal concerns the modification of the criterion for the access of delivery vehicles in restricted traffic zones. Instead of the weight criterion of deliveries, wholesalers in the Union propose to use the volume criterion. This would help reduce traffic and, at the same time, minimize environmental impacts, but also improve working conditions for couriers and optimize the entire supply chain. The aim is to improve the quality of supply to companies in Limited Traffic Zones and to reduce noise and environmental pollution.
City officials thanked the wholesalers for their constructive proposals. To be able to make changes to the current regulation we must now wait for a ruling from the Council of State in Rome, because a judicial appeal is still pending.
In the meeting there was unanimity on the fact that closer collaboration between wholesale traders and the Municipality of Bolzano could, in the future, help to find satisfactory solutions for the daily supply of goods in the city.
