PESCARA – The “Value your heart” campaign, dedicated to heart valve diseases, promoted by the Cuore Nostro Association, arrives in the city. 10 information meetings in as many elderly centers in different regions of Italy, including Abruzzo, to raise awareness of the symptoms of the disease, often underestimated, but which can be the alarm signal of an incorrect functioning of the heart, to encourage early diagnosis and consequently adequate treatment. And precisely to arrive at an early diagnosis, the campaign also includes 10 days of cardiac health monitoring dedicated to the over 65s, with auscultation of the heart by medical personnel. The cities involved are Rome, Naples, Genoa, Turin, Catania, Florence, Andria and Milan and on May 3rd Pescara.

In Italy, heart valve diseases are particularly widespread, affecting 13% of individuals over the age of 65 annually. 7% of those over 80 years old are affected by aortic stenosis, 10% by mitral insufficiency, 15% by atrial fibrillation or heart failure. In our country, those over 65 make up 24% of the population, a percentage that is expected to reach 34.5% by 2050. With this demographic change, heart valve diseases are expected to become an increasingly widespread problem. However, with early diagnosis and appropriate management, patients’ quality of life can be significantly improved. One of the keys to the early recognition of heart valve diseases is in fact a regular check with the stethoscope by the general practitioner. This simple test can reveal any abnormalities in the heart valves and make a difference to people’s lives, allowing for timely treatment that can improve their quality of life and prevent serious complications.

Through 10 meetings conducted by expert cardiologists and specialists in the sector, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of these pathologies, learn to recognize their symptoms and discover the treatment options available. Furthermore, during the 10 days of cardiac health monitoring, the doctors of the Cuore Nostro Association will offer free basic cardiac checks to the local population, in order to identify any early signs of valve problems and promptly direct the interested parties towards a more detailed medical evaluation. thorough.
