The governor of Veneto is cold on Salvini’s decision to nominate the general: “Choice of the party, he is not at the top of the list.” Then the distancing from separate classes for disabled people and Mussolini as statesman: “I don’t agree”

«Vannacci on the list? No battle. The general, as he likes to be called, is not the leader of the list but these are choices that the party has made.” The president of Veneto, Luca Zaiaduring a meeting with the press at Palazzo Balbi, the Venetian headquarters of the regional council, commented thus the presence of the Folgore general on the League’s lists for the European vote of next 8 and 9 June and the controversies that accompanied the decision of the Northern League secretary, Matteo Salvini, to co-opt the soldier for the electoral cause. Measured words from the governor, accompanied however by a decisive distancing from some statements by the author of the highly contested The World in Reverse: «I don’t agree – said Zaia – with the proposal of separate classes and the conception of Mussolini as a statesman”strongly underlining how the general is an independent candidate and not from the League: «Will I vote for him? I would feel like a traitor not to vote for a Venetian.”

“Autonomy? Whoever is against it is against the Constitution”

The governor of Veneto then weighed the party list: «The one for the European elections of the League in the North East is a good list. It will be a good competition – reflection – motivated by identity and autonomy, which are local issues. There are people who know public administration, they are former administrators: the components are all there.” «Obliged», from the audience came the underlining of the contrast, bordering on contradiction, with the centralism professed by Vannacci: «I repeat – replied Zaia – that those who are against autonomy are against the Constitution and this also applies to the general, autonomy is provided for in the 1948 constitution, and specified with the 1991 amendment to Title V, everything else is digressions on the topic…”.
