Emergency roundtable in the Prefecture between the Authority, Siciliacque and Caltaqua to respond to the water shortage resulting from the failures of the Ancipa aqueduct.

It took place this morning at the Prefecture of Caltanissetta a technical table in order to analyze and quickly resolve the ongoing water crisis due to the repeated failures of the Ancipa aqueduct in Siciliaquewhich has caused many inefficiencies in some municipalities in the Nisseno area.

As explained by the Siciliacque representative, Eng. Emilio Argentoit was about “a series of breakages occurred in the Ancipa aqueduct itself between the initial one on 28 April and 30 April, when it was not sufficient to repair the aqueduct and partially reactivate the supply to prevent new and unexpected failures during the filling phase”.

The Prefect of Caltanissetta, Chiara Armeniawhich convened the Mayors of the municipalities affected by the disruption, the ATI, the Fire Brigade of Caltanissetta and the representatives of Siciliacque and Caltaqua, highlighted the need to guarantee essential services to sensitive structures and schools as soon as possible, as well as to resolve as soon as possible a general problem that causes difficulties for a very significant part of citizens.

The representatives of Caltaqua they have assured that they will continue to supply sensitive entities, such as hospitals and prisons, with tankers throughout today, while at the same time demonstrating the difficulty of doing the same with all educational institutions.

The manager of the water service in the province of Caltanissetta has received reassurances from Siciliacque, namely between 11.00pm and 12.00am today, Thursday 2 May, the filling of the Caltaqua tanks will start againwhich could therefore gradually reactivate distribution starting from the following day.

“We are already filling the Ancipa aqueduct, but there are technical times that we cannot speed up” – specified Eng. Siciliacque silver. The water will not arrive in Caltaqua before late evening because if we did not respect the timing of the filling phase there would be a risk of a further failure”.

Since it is not possible to guarantee with certainty widespread and full water distribution tomorrow, in order to protect the health and safety of students and school staff, an ordinance from the Mayor has ordered the closure of all public schools of all levels for Friday 3 May 2024.

Therefore, the municipal nursery schools, nursery schools, primary schools, secondary schools of the first and second level and the locations of the university study courses present in the city of Caltanissetta are affected by the provision.
