Oyster Fest 2024, La Spezia celebrates the excellence of the Italian oyster

Countdown to La Spezia, a city with an identity, for the opening of second Italian oyster festival, the Oyster Fest 2024. We intend to renew last year’s success, with ten thousand oysters and three thousand glasses of wine served to visitors at a fair that allowed oyster farmers to make their techniques and production known and to make people understand how oysters are a luxury product accessible to all . But the aim of the initiative is also to create networks and dialogue between operators in the sector and between different regions.

Also this year, from 10 to 12 May, on the Passeggiata Morin seafront in La Spezia they will alternate spaces for tasting and selling products from all over Italy and also from abroadwith stands dedicated to wines and areas dedicated to meetings, conferences, entertainment and cuisine.

Sustainability, taste and accessibility are the key words of the event – the first of its kind in Italy – with a rich program of events, to learn more, learn about and taste with awareness.

The event also enjoys the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestryas well as the Liguria Region and the Municipality of La Spezia.

The Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida is expected in the event “Excellence from the Sea: Italian Oysters and their Ecosystem and Cultural Importance in the Strategy of the Liguria FISH GAL” scheduled for May 10th at 5pm at Passeggiata Morin, together with the mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini, to the President of the Riviere di Liguria Chamber of Commerce and of the Liguria FISH GAL, Enrico Lupiand other guests introduced by the journalist Maria Antonietta Spadorciadeputy director of Tg2.

Italian oyster production is still relatively low: if the French one stands at 80,000 tons per year, that of the Bel Paese is estimated at 500 tons per year, of which only 180 are productions from “seed”, which is a guarantee of a unique product strongly characterized by the marine environment in which they are bred, with local excellences such as the pink one from Scardovari, the green one from the Golfo dei Poeti, the white one from the Gargano, the golden one and the black one from Goro.
