Oaths of knights, armed clashes and ancient dances. And music performed with period instruments and performances by jugglers from times gone by. This year too, the splendid village of Santa Severina came alive with one of the events that has become traditional in the Crotone town: the Medieval Festival.
During the festival, the many participants attended historical re-enactments immersed in the medieval atmosphere
The event, organized by the Municipality of Santa Severina in collaboration with the Pro Loco Siberene, included a mix of historical theatre, living history, medieval music and fights. And also dances and costume games.
But not only. The streets of the city village were filled with moments related to food and wine. All this to offer the large public arriving in the town from every corner of the region and beyond the way to appreciate the historical, cultural and folkloric heritage of the village of Santa Severina.
The Medieval Market is also very interesting with ceramics, weapons, armour, ornaments and the display of torture instruments.
During the day that animated the village from morning until evening there were also many workshops, such as the executioner’s and the archery one. The re-enactments of duels between warriors, oaths between Knights Templar and medieval dances are very evocative.
An exciting moment of the festival is when a valiant knight, armed with sword and armor, solemnly enters the majestic cathedral of Saint Anastasia. After receiving the blessing, the knight heads into the dark catacombs to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the cause.
The celebration culminated with the preparation for war, with the inhabitants sharpening their swords and donning their armour, in an atmosphere full of tension and hope. (photo: Mistery Hunters Cultural Association)
