In the afternoon of the other day, around 4.35pm, a frightened mother contacted the Carabinieri Operations Center via the emergency number 112, reporting, alarmed, that her 7-year-old child had wandered away in a moment of distraction on her part and of her husband, from inside a well-known restaurant in Piazza Alcalà, probably getting lost in the area between the arches of the marina and Via Plebiscito.

The station, having received the description, immediately launched searches, concentrating all the car radios, motorcycle-mounted patrols and mounted Carabinieri in the area.

In those tense minutes, the street corners and shops adjacent to the place of removal were checked while colleagues from the “Horse Regiment” patrolled the very crowded Piazza Duomo, taking advantage of their privileged position and trying to identify, from tall, the child in the crowd.

Meanwhile, the Operations Center coordinated the device, providing continuous and incessant indications about the sectors on which to direct the searches until a providential phone call came to 112 which reported the presence of a child who, disoriented, was walking along Via Plebiscite and via Garibaldi.

The intervention of one was therefore very quick gazelle who, in the “blink of an eye”, reached the area of the sighting, where he immediately tracked down the little “fugitive” while he was walking on Via Garibaldi, about a kilometer away from Piazza Alcalà.

The Carabinieri immediately gave the news of the discovery to the child’s mother and father who, after about 30, interminable, minutes of fear were able to hug the little one again.

Before greeting the Carabinieri, the child wanted a photo taken of him with them.

Meanwhile, the family of the child, moved, warmly thanked the Carabinieri, congratulating them for their unfailing closeness to the population in the most difficult moments as well as in preventing and repressing crimes.

This is the activity of the “gazelles” of the Army who operate non-stop 24 hours a day with tenacity and professionalism.
