Livorno, 2 May 2024 – Livorno, city of the sacred. A sacred music that smells of that Baroque that has its roots in that 1600 fundamental for the history of our city. It was precisely in 1606, on 19 March, that Livorno was elevated to the rank of City. It was precisely in the seventeenth century that Livorno became the pearl of the Mediterranean.

And it is precisely in this period that the genius of maestro Federico Maria Sardelli wanted to dedicate the first Baroque Music Festival strongly supported by councilor Simone Lenzi. The rich program was presented by the municipality manager Giovanni Cerini, and by the creators maestro Sardelli, maestro Roberto Sbolci and Stefano Caprina. Five concerts in the symbolic places of the city: Sanctuary of Montenero, the Cathedral, the Church of San Ferdinando, the Goldoni Theatre.

“Livorno is my city – said maestro Sardelli – my heart is here. After the great success of the baroque concert in Montenero, we thought of proposing a Baroque Sacred Music Festival to the administration”. “It will be refined music – underlined Sbolci – which is not performed frequently and difficult to hear”. An unmissable opportunity to listen to works by Vivaldi, Lulli, Hendel. Because the genius of maestro Sardelli is also this, he manages to combine the sacred with the profane: “This is how you look for harmony”. After all, Councilor Lenzi recalled, it was precisely in the Baroque period that Livorno found its most distinctive music. “And it is no coincidence – he says – because the Baroque imposed itself as a frontier art, where the Church had to demonstrate its power. And Livorno is Tuscany’s only border”.
