An investigation was opened by the Rome prosecutor’s office after the death of a young man, which occurred on 26 April in the capital, after the boy had undergone weight-loss surgery in a private clinic in Arezzo in April. As Il Messaggero reports today, the investigations were started by a complaint presented to the police by the father of the young man, who would have turned 20 on 29 April. From what was reported in the press, the young man, who weighed 160 kilograms, was discharged from the Arezzo clinic on 21 April and returned to Rome where he lived. Last Thursday he started to feel ill. Taken to the San Carlo di Nancy hospital in Rome, the emergency room doctors found nothing serious and the boy had signed his resignation.

However, on the 26th he suffered another illness following which he was taken by 118 again to hospital, to the Gemelli polyclinic, where he later died. After the complaint, some medical records were seized and an autopsy was ordered. “He was fine, we did everything as per protocol”, explains today the head of the Tuscan Surgical Center Stefano Tenti, the Arezzo clinic where the young man was operated on by a Roman surgeon who also carries out operations in the Tuscan facility. «They had also given him a higher dose of heparin – he explained – given his heavy weight, 160 kilos to protect him from possible pulmonary embolism by prescribing everything that was necessary to do. From an examination of the files everything appears to be in order.”
