The osprey stops in Trentino (PHOTO), here is where it was spotted and immortalized

LEVICO TERME. It is not so rare for the osprey to stop in Trentino during its migrations, but what is difficult is being able to admire its beauty, perhaps managing to immortalise it.

This is what happened instead, in recent days, in the provincial nature reserve and WWF oasis “Inghiaie” in the Levico Terme area where a specimen made its appearance and was also immortalized while flying from photonaturalist Maurizio Giovannini.

Related to aquatic environments, the osprey lives near marshes, ponds and rivers where it manages to capture its prey by performing spectacular dives and it is a species widespread at various latitudes, with some populations such as those in northern Europe that occur throughout the year long migrations stopping, as probably in the case of the specimen spotted in Trentino, in environments suitable for stopping which represent real “stop-overs”, fundamental “service areas” along the migratory routes.

The species, as the WWF explains, was considered for years extremely at risk of disappearance in our skies, while todayhas returned to reproduce in Italy thanks to significant conservation efforts and many threats seem partially resolved, thanks also toestablishment of protected areas like the one in Trentino which offer safe areas for migratory stops and reproduction.

Coming to the “Inghiaie” nature reserve, this extends for approximately thirty hectares and is included in the “Natura 2000 Network” of the European Union for presence of habitats and species of community interest: located at the bottom of the valley on the orographic right of the Rio Vena – and partly covered by woods and partly occupied by damp meadows – represents a fragment of the humid environments that once characterized the valley floor, among the most beautiful remaining in Valsugana and in Trentino.

The area is frequented by many animals among which roe deer, deer, wild boars and in winter also from wolfand the riparian forest on the sides of the Rio Vena constitutes an extremely important environment for the sustenance and refuge of sedentary and migratory birds such as the moorhenThe Mallard and the kingfisherbut also the gray heron, the red heronThe little bitternThe marsh millet and the black kite.
