Dear Director,
I am a very disappointed Pallacanestro Varese season ticket holder.
Everything has already been said about the sporting season that has just ended and almost nothing can be saved. Initial roster built on the cheap and completely inadequate. Play-pivot axis to cover your eyes with your hands, Brown as a stand-in for last year’s, random signings in the running apart from obviously Mannion and perhaps Besson and I won’t go any further.
Then, we have become accustomed to the fact that at the end of each season it is not possible to retain a good player, even if one, but this year we have reached the paradox of being able to sell the best player on the roster during the current season and to safety not yet acquired.
What about the eight defeats suffered at home? And the coach? Forget it.
Now, however, Legabasket has published the final data on attendance and takings in the A1 series arenas and here it has emerged that for both statistics the Varese crowd is in fourth place.
We therefore have that here in Varese the fans finished fourth and the 14th team was very close to the brink of relegation.
The difference is a bit big; Do the fans of this glorious club really deserve all this? I would say no.
I would like to inform you right now that I will not renew my season ticket sight unseen as I have always done and I hope all season ticket holders will do so. We must first see how the club will move on the market and what team will be set up for next season. Will this season’s few prized pieces like Mannion, Moretti and McDermott be retained? And for the coach another unknown or low-cost second/third choice?
In the worst case scenario that I don’t even want to imagine, I will use part of the season ticket nest egg to watch individual cartel matches.
I therefore hope that Scola and C. get busy because perhaps they haven’t understood it yet but here in Varese we are in good spirits about basketball and we no longer want to settle for these sad seasons and salvations with anguish of mind.
