And for this reason it is also necessary to implement connections and intermodality, to find alternative solutions so as not to make all those who – having arrived at the “Tito Minniti” airport – want to move towards the center or the Province find themselves disorientated.
The StrettoWeb editorial staff spoke about this withCity Councilor Paolo Malarawhich has – among others – also the delegation to the Airport. “The impression of these first days is that there is attention towards the city from tourists arriving, including school groups. Then the queues at the Museum are pleasant. The outlook seems quite positive to me, there is a lively center and there are good possibilities for looking at the tourist season in a new way”.
Taxis
The theme of mobility, as we were saying, is probably the most important. What is the Municipal Administration doing about this and what are they thinking about? “Reggio is a city on the sea, there is the port and intermodality is fundamental. On mobility we are moving by trying to reactivate the system of Taxi“explains Malara. “We are meeting taxi drivers for a minimum of organization and so that they can have a unique number. Anyone calling from anywhere must interface with a single number. Then we’re ramping up and predicting some stalls at the beginning of Via Marina, near Cesare, and others in the Piazza Italia area. It is important that there is systemic activity with taxi drivers. Tourists must move at controlled costs and in a simple way.” Regarding the stalls at the airport, “there will be a confrontation with Franchini. We will meet with him. We try to meet the taxi drivers. We are first and foremost concerned with user service: a single number and more rational prices. With Franchini we will try to reason together.”
The Maldariti junction and beyond
Not just taxis, though. “For intermodality we have renewed the agreement between hydrofoils and the two public transport companies with the integrated ticket – adds Malara – and we are working on the buses that go from the Port to the Airport. There is a good offer. With ATAM the goal is to increase the line”. Apart from this “from a programming point of view we are in contact with ANAS for the most part Maldariti junction. A contract has already been awarded. We have already left. This work should be completed within 10-11 months”. The objective, in the latter case, is to work first and foremost for clean the underpass from decay and restart the stop of the Airport station. “Work is being done on surface metro“. To encourage flow to the centre, while avoiding traffic, “In perspective we are working on a multi-level car park to the business center to bring people to the center of Reggio by public transport”the other idea.
The summer season and waste
In addition to links, the idea is to try to liven up the summer season, trying to change its face compared to recent seasons. Malara says something but doesn’t say anything. “We are having a much more robust summer program than in the past. For some activities we coordinate with the Chamber of Commerce. We have involved ATAM regarding the tourist bus, we will bring forward its release on an experimental basis by a month, I think next month”, precise.
Sore point there waste issuewith micro and macro landfills from north to south of the city. “We are increasing surveillance. A resolution was made on Thursday and other surveillance equipment was purchased”concluded Malara, who does not have the mandate for this sector.
