From Lucca Sicula, Villafranca and Burgio, where this year the Giovaninfesta 2024 had an itinerant form, to Lampedusa. Because the “Youth Cross”, for the 2025 edition of the traditional May 1st event, has passed to the largest of the Pelagie islands. And to collect it, present since the initial prayer – in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in Lucca Sicula -, the mayor Filippo Mannino.
“We are happy, very happy, to take up the baton and start, in the next few weeks, to think about organizing the Giovaninfesta in Lampedusa – explained Mannino -. An event that will naturally bring hundreds, if not thousands, of young people from province in Lampedusa”.
Traveling Giovaninfesta, thousands of young people between Villafranca, Burgio and Lucca Sicula
The “Cross of young people” is the same one that has passed from one community to another for 31 years. It has been happening since, on 9 May 1993 to be precise, it was delivered by Saint John Paul II to over 18 thousand young people from Agrigento and Sicily during the meeting at the Esseneto stadium in Agrigento.
