The fight against the identification of the province of Trapani as a site for the national nuclear waste repository intensifies. Next May 2nd, at 9:00 am in Piazza Vittorio in Trapani, an event will be held which will see the students as protagonists, invited by the Mayors and representatives of the productive and social world of Trapani to take to the field to defend their future and the territory .

An initiative to raise awareness among the new generations

The initiative, which follows the demonstration in Calatafimi-Segesta on 7 April and the Fulgatore assembly on 28 April, aims to raise awareness among the new generations of the risks and negative consequences that the construction of the nuclear repository would have for the province of Trapani (here instead, an article from TP24 on the opportunities represented by the depot).

A threatened tourist area

As underlined by the Marsala Tourist Facilities Association, which is taking part in the event, the national government’s choice to identify an area with a great tourist vocation as a site for the nuclear depot represents an unacceptable paradox. A radioactive waste dump would not only damage the environment, but would also have a devastating impact on tourism, a vital sector for the Trapani economy.

An invitation to mobilize

The Mayors, representatives of the productive and social categories and the associations invite all citizens, especially young people, to participate in the demonstration on May 2nd to express their dissent against the nuclear storage project and to defend the future of Trapani.

A call to mobilization

“It is necessary that all together we say no to the nuclear depot in Trapani – say the Mayors Francesco Gruppuso of Calatafimi-Segesta and Giacomo Tranchida of Trapani -. The future of our territory cannot be compromised by a wicked choice like this. We invite all students and citizens to join us on May 2nd to defend our future and our environment.”
