Modica, the redevelopment works of the former Albergo dei Poveri have been delivered –

The redevelopment works for the poor people’s hotel in Corso Regina Margherita in Modica Alta, which has been closed for many years, were delivered yesterday morning.

Mayor Maria Monisteri, accompanied by the Councilor for Public Works Antonio Drago, and other members of the council as well as some councillors, went to the site to carry out an inspection of the structure which is obviously in very poor condition after years of abandonment. The inspection also served to verify, with papers in hand, what the project designed for its redevelopment will be.

The building, in fact, will be completely renovated, subjected to important structural interventions also with a view to energy efficiency. With this in mind, new fixtures, a new air conditioning system as well as flooring will be created. Once completed it will finally be returned to the city and in particular to that part of the city, Modica Alta, which suffers from a lack of meeting places. In particular, the former Albergo dei Poveri will become the ‘house of associations’

Another intervention that comes with a PNRR loan Urban regeneration –declares the mayor of Modica Maria Monisteri-3 million euros are intended to restore luster and light to the former Albergo dei Poveri. The duration of the works is expected to be 545 days and the contract is entrusted to the EdilZeta company. Another step forward in the process we are carrying out to give new life to Modica’s historic buildings. The revitalization of Modica Alta also involves the redevelopment of strategic works such as the former Albergo dei Poveri

For Antonio DragoCouncilor for Public Works: “Not only is it a structure full of history and symbolic for the city of Modica but it will become the ‘home’ of many young people who will find spaces suitable for their activities in those places. In fact, reading rooms, coworking spaces, multimedia rooms and much more will be built. Activities such as co-planning, sharing and socialization will be encouraged within this structure which will bring many young people to experience Modica Alta. I believe that this is the right way to bring these neighborhoods back to life: redevelop all our historic buildings and give them back to the City; this is how upper Modica lives again. We are already doing it with Palazzo Denaro Papa and now, with today’s delivery of the works, we can also say it for the former Albergo dei Poor”

The renovation of this structure represents a challenge for the municipal administration of this city. In fact, over time there have been many administrations that have succeeded one another at Palazzo San Domenico who would have liked to recover this property but due to the lack of funds it has always remained a missed objective.
