the love of sport does not need sight

The love of sport is blind. Especially when practiced with the CISV association (Blind visually impaired athletes from Varese) affiliated with Uisp and chaired by Giovanni Castiglione, from Varese, visually impaired since 2015. «May will be a month full of initiatives – states the president -. We try to propose to the members as many activities as possiblealso choosing sports that they could hardly do independently.”

Saturday 11 May, in collaboration with “Angels on Motorcycles”, with the representative Tiziano Andreoli, 15 blind sportsmen will go on a motorbike tour with about thirty bikers. The departure is set at 10am in Piazzale Ippodromo in Varese. The route will be a loop that will wind between Valganna, Cunardo, Ponte Tresa and Porto Ceresio. The group will return to Varese for lunch at the Cri in via Dunant. There will also be the carabinieri on leave and some volunteers who will make themselves available to facilitate the route.

Two nice activities are also planned in the municipality of Laveno Mombello, thanks to the commitment of the entire administration and especially of councilor Barbara Sonzogni. During the weekend between the 25th and 26th May – with the Delta Club Laveno – the Blind sportsmen will do a tandem flight with paraglider. A strong emotion that they joined ten members. During the month, thanks to the association Water workshops chaired by Paolo Sivelli, there will be the possibility of go out on a sailing boatin the context of
a route dedicated specifically to the blind.

Both activities – paragliding and sailing – are part of the Deep Blue project which means “deep blue” and which has the purpose of planning sports and sensory activities, thinking precisely of the needs of those who are preparing to experience emotions with all the senses except with sight.

Athletes There are approximately 100 registered members of the Cisv among the blind, visually impaired, guides and companions. The flagship of the multi-sports association is the baseball team “Cisv Hurricane Varese” of Malnate, who was Italian champion for three years. There are many individual and group sports that members can choose from, including pool, shooting with archery, yoga, rowing, dancing, bowling. Activities that take place throughout the province.

In the summer they organize themselves trips to the seaside with the Sup and canoes, in the winter in the mountains for skiing downhill and mountaineering. The number of guides and volunteers is sufficient to allow many activities to be carried out and is already a great achievement which testifies to how much blind sports people are followed and loved, and new companions are always welcome. Furthermore, the association also has two minibuses for travel and a twenty tandems for bike rides. Instead, we are looking for a photographer to accompany the group in the various activities.
